MG MGB Technical - No Click--No Start-Bad Fuel Pump?
I put on a new fuel pump about a year ago. Recently I noticed it stopped making the infamous "clicking" sound when I turned the key. I checked the wires to see if it is getting juice and it is. My guess is that I'll need to replace the fuel pump again but I was just checking if there is something I'm not considering. |

Heath, Is the pump a "points" type or all electronic? The fix may be as simple as cleaning/adjusting the points if it has them. Cheers, Doug |

Heath - Before trashing the pump, try giving it a good whack with a large screwdriver handle and see if it starts up. If it does, you will need to cleand the points off with some 400 wet and dry sand paper, but continue to carry that large screwdriver as you may need to whack it again to get home. If that doesn't fix it, don't give up, go to my SU fuel pump article on Les Bengtson's web page <http://www.custompistols.com/cars/articles/dd_su_fuel_pumps_101.htm> The article will tell you about the pumps and what can go wrong with them. At the end of the article is a link to the write up of my SU fuel pump services - I can restore your old pump less than the cost of a new pump. Good luck - Dave |
