MG MGB Technical - No Dash Lights
Hello! I have a problem in that I have no working dash lights (lights that come on when you turn on exterior head lamps) or dash turning indicators on my recently purchased 66B. The only lights that work are the high-beam and the ignition light - all of the gauges work. All wire connections are clean and tight as far as I can tell. There are no loose wires anywhere. I have tested the globes and they all work, just not when plugged into their sockets in the car. The exterior indicators function correctly. Hopefully someone else has fixed this problem in their own B and can help me as I would also like to enjoy my car at night! Thanks, Darren - Australia |

My 1970 has a slider-switch on the left of the steering wheel cowl shich serves as a master on-off for the dash lights. |

1. under dash ground wire not touching bare metal? bracket holding speedo or tach is touching paint not bare metal? (I belive that's your grounding point) 2. reostat not operating? bypass for verification but, of course that doesn't address your indicator issue. |

Hopefully, you have a wiring diagram. Check, or double check all grounds -- coming and going. You may have good clean connections at the dash/instrument points, but a bad one where the wire harness is grounded. Half the fun in trouble-shooting is going through all the motions! |

Thanks for your help guys - I'll check it out this weekend! Darren. |

it's probably the rheostat. I had the same problem and it was dirty connections inside the rheostat. I just bypassed it. |

Dan....that's what that switch is for on my 69 !!?? Never could figure it out as nothing is connected to it. |
