MG MGB Technical - No flash flasher
'ello all, while tightening the housing bolts on the fan motors of my '79b (boy do they make a horrendous sound when glancing off the fans!)i noticed the wiring hanging along side. i tucked this bundle up under the bonnet cable to keep it out of the way. now my left flasher does not flash. it comes on and remains steady. i've rotated new bulbs all around with the same result. all the bullet connects seem tight so now i'm on to finding a ground. that is the correct next move, yes? thanks, brady |

You've probably disturbed the bullet connectors by the right- (or left-) hand headlight. Could be the coloured wires supplying 12v as much as the black wires supplying the ground. |

tiny world! i was just scouring your web site while waiting! it's the left (drivers side here)and the correct wire is green with red, right? brady |

Correct! Tight bullet connectors can mean corrosion just as much as a good connection, unless you part them to check they are clean. At which point you may as well replace the connectors, and reassemble with Vaseline which acts as a lubricant (!) and helps keep further water and dirt out. Make sure you push the bullets fully home, they go most of the way but need further pressure to fully click home, the back of the bullet should be well inside the insulated sleeve of the connector. I have cut notches in the ends of the handles of a pair of pliers the same width as the diameter of the insulation, so when you squeeze the handles they press on the backs of two opposing bullts and push both fully in at the same time. Works with just one bullet as well. These ones by the headlights do get the worst of the weather. |
