MG MGB Technical - No High beam
Having put the TF and Twin Cam on hold I have recently purchased a 1968 MGB. The high beam works when I pull the stalk backwards to flash, but not when I push the stalk forward. Any clues? Don in the cold hills of Adelaide Sth. Oz |

Assuming that low beam is working OK, it sounds like the column switch. Either a bent or broken contact. |

Don, Have a '67 B, high beam on stalk won't work for me forwards either, not sure it's supposed to, maybe '68 is a different setup. Have you got a dip switch on the floor? Cheers, Chris from colder Canberra! |

Good point Chris. I assumed that the switch was moving. My '67 also has the dipswitch on the floor. I'm not sure when they changed it and it's possible that Australian built cars had different change points. I know that CKD midgets were different to home-market cars. |

Thanks for the replies. No dipswitch on the floor, I think this may have been a US model, I assumed as the stalk had the flasher it was also the switch for the high beam in the forward position. Is there a 'flasher' relay somewhere? Don Adelaide Hills (cold) |

Not normally(!) Flasher has a separate supply to the switch. But if Dipped are working the supply to the actual switch is OK worth a look at http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/electricstext2.htm#dip Loads of info there :) Bernie |

Thank you Bernie, that's exactly the information I was looking for. Regards, Don |
