MG MGB Technical - No smoke

I only want to tell everyone how happy I am. After a complete overhaul of my 69 B engine with its original 86.000km I´m driving it again and the smoke I could see on acelaration (at night only ) is gone. I overhauled it because it was using from top level to below the low oil level mark in less than 300km.
I´m runing it in but I guess the oil consumption must have gone down a lot. In the beginig I never suspected that such a low mileage could have worn out the engine so bad. It got the +020 thou pistons and the head was "unleaded" as per Peter Burgess.
Only wanted to share my joy with people who understand this kind of thing.

Congratulations! My engine only had 50K miles,
but a lot of bore wear, and was also using a lot
of oil. The machinist said it
looked like the previous owner(s) hadn't changed
the oil very often. Lack of oil changes causes
rapid ring wear also and hence high consumption.

I have a 76 B with 46,000 miles. I suspect it is more like 146,000 since I have some old service tickets showing 85k. No history on the car however I've driven 1500 miles and only had to add 1/ quart. Car seems sluggish, perhaps a cam change, head upgrade. ANY suggetions on how to get more pep. I have a webber DD with free flow exhaust W/ compatible manifold. Car starts and runs like new except for the pep.

My sugestion is if you think your car has such a high mileage it is probably ready for a overhaul. What I wouldo do is get Peter Burgess book chose the kind of modification you want want and go for it.This is easyer said than done. It took me almost a year to take the decision, but now that I did I am very pleased with it.
