MG MGB Technical - Not baffled anymore .... Two cylinders not trying
By way of update and to thank all who helped with this problem, my GT is on song again after much fixing and fettling. The culprits turned out to be: 1) Weak fuel pump (respect to Gerald) causing the float chamber in the Weber to fill poorly (apparently they're v sensitive to float level)? At any rate, the fuel wasn't atomising well and could be seen rumming along the walls of the inlet manifold at higher revs. Changing the pump brought cylinders 1 and 4 on stronger at higher revs when they'd been useless before. 2) Oselli had the car for a couple of days and rejetted the carb and tweaked the timing giving further gains but reckoned there were more to be had. 3) Taking Oselli's line of investigation I completely stripped the Weber and was lucky to spot a blocked acelerator pump jet when I had it on the bench. Replacing this finally gave the kick to accleration I'd always imagined the car should have. The car has run sweetly for about a month now and I can sleep at night once again. Many thanks. Steve |
