MG MGB Technical - Not enough fuel/fuel pump
I have a 32/36 Weber carb that I have rebuilt. checked the float level and all is fine. You can fill the bowl with gas and the car runs fine but then it runs out of gas. I have an electric fuel pump low pressure and wonder if I should go with the 4 to 7 psi? The 2 to 4 psi fuel pump is working and seems like plenty of gas is coming out when its not connected to the carb but it seems to lack enough pressure to move the gas into the carb. Any ideas are welcome Tom |

Have you checked float level and pressure from pump, with a vacvuum- pressure guage? |

Do you have a fuel filter? A dirty fuel filter will pass enough fuel to run at low speed, but die at higher speeds that require more fuel demand. I think the stock SU pumps works OK with the Weber, but check the carb spec.s for required delivery pressure. |

Tom, I recently installed a weber 38 outlaw carb which starved for fuel at higher speeds. The stock pump has good pressure but low volume. I installed a Holley red pump which is rated at 7 psi, 3-4 psi is recommended. Top End Performance sells a Carter pump for about $95.00-high volume, low pressure. I would have purchased the Carter had I known. So far no trouble with the Holley, some tech's at work say Weber needle & seats can hold 9 psi without trouble. Good luck, Nes |

No problem whatsoever with stock pump and Weber 38/38. Suspect fuel screen at inlet is clogged (cone) or backward. Don't like Weber but that is another story. Mike! |

Tom. I am currently running two Weber DGVs, one on a 77 with a Fawcet pump and one on a 79 with an SU pump. No problems with either. David DuBois wrote an article on how to identify and check out the SU pumps, if that is what you are currently using. It is at www.custompistols.com/ under the MG and articles sections. Les |

I just resolved a problem very much like yours. I have the 32/36 Weber and found out that there is a screen right under the inlet. When I unbolted this, it was completely filled with silt. A good cleanup and the problem has disappeared. Larry(70 mgb) |
