MG MGB Technical - Odd heater question

'79 B with dealer AC. removed the AC. want to "redirect" the heat from the footwells to the dash vents. anyone done this - if so...how?

thanks for the help here (and in the past - car runs GREAT!)

Ed,
I seem to remember on a '70 GT or a '71 midget I had a long time ago, that there were doors on the heater outlets in the footwells. These could be closed to redirect the airflow to the windshield to improve demisting.

Maybe someone else has these and can confirm my shaky memory.

I would have expected the A/C to retain the air direction control which controls a flap in the bottom of the heater (not the closable footwell vents which were only fitted to early cars). These direct the air through two pipes on the cabin side of the heater box via pipes to the demister vents. Do you not have both temp and direction controls? Are the pipes and vents installed?

I think he's talking about the fresh air vents on the center of the dash. The A/C units used a flex pipe that ran cold air to these. Seems like you would need some way to tap into the current flex tubes that run to the floor vents OR if you want to eliminate the floor vents just disconnect the tube at the outlet and connect the tube to the center vent. Won't keep your feet warm but you'll have warm air blow directly on you.

Ed:
FWIW, I have posted a cutaway photo of the heater box assembly (from Original MGB) which may be of some help in visualizing your situation. This car was a bit earlier than yours but I believe that the basic design of the structure remained the same, just the exterior fittings changed. You can see this photo, capture it, and then view it on your own photo viewing software at this site: http://hometown.aol.com/akamrmg/MGPhotoShare.html It is below the distributor photos.
