MG MGB Technical - Oil filter recommendations?

Looking for views on the best oil filter to use on an unmodified 28,000mile 1980 Roadster.

I see MANN filters seem well though if? Appear to have a good filtration and shut-off valve.

Curiously US MG sites recommend W917 (85mm high, 1.1bar bypass valve) whereas it looks like W916 (95mm, 0.9 bar bypass valve) is the right one according to the MANN website?

Also, which to avoid? I ask as my initial forays into replacement parts supplies have showed that, although delightfully almost every single part is available for these cars, the quality of many is truly terrible. Surprisingly worse than the original BL parts..!

Thanks all.

Mann W916/1. Avoid Fram as the anti drain-back properties are suspect. But almost any one of the correct type will do for a fair weather driver with 3k oil changes

Good, thanks Michael.

Ditto Michael. Wouldn't use a Fram filter again if they paid me for doing so.

Does anyone know who makes the filters that Moss UK sells?
Tore

Pretty sure ours has a Moss-supplied filter (looking at the receipts), so when I put the new MANN one on I will try to see if there's any ID on it.

I use Halford's HOF202

As you say the 917 is shorter than the 916, so less filtration area. The 916 is the same height as the original filters and the other available equivalents, so is the one to use.
