Sorry for my vocabulary.
For my roadster v8 conversion I build my own panhard rod, I fit a rod for keep some clearance between the lips fender and my 6x15 wheels and 195 tyres. The rod is build in one inch diameter aircraft tube (25CD4S) one side is rose jointed the other with polyurethane bush (triumph type). The bracket to the shell is welded with reinforcement in the boot lid, the bracket to the rear axle is also welded. In neutral position, the rod is parallel to the rear axle (and the shell). I have also fitted Nylatron bushs and pads to my leaf springs. The system work very well, no problems.

michel, do you have any pic's of the clearance you have between your wheels and rear wings?

Yes I have, in my PC to my home, I am at office now, I send the shot evening. I use Compomotive wheels 6x15 ET6, I think I have wire wheel drive shafts (more short) to my Salisbury rear axle, I have fitted disc brake at rear.

Lately I've been hunting around car wreckers for compatable bits for setting up a 5 link supension on the MGB. There were a couple of cars that have panhard rods about the right length. From tower on corner of boot to U bolts on other side, ie long as posssible) The Toyota Terago (small van) is exactly the right length. you could save allot of sweat (and expense) by pulling all the bits off a wreck.

I have CD with shots to the office

Bob
Im using composite rear springs and have fabricated my own Panhard rod and anti Tramp bars.
My design is as simple as it gets with a bracket bolted to the near side boot corner and a small one welded to the axle. Easier on a chrome bumper car for clearing the handbrake cable.
At first I used a rose joint at each end but they soon showed signs of wear so now I have a rubber bush at one end and a rose joint the other.

Looks like you are only 10 miles away, you are welcome to have a look.
Mine has a 4.6 V8 and is a 69 GT
So far my Rod has done over 40 track days and about 25k miles. The difference in handling is quite pronounced and the car just feels so much better.

Cheers

Bob,

I just bought a panhard rod kit from Frontline for my '65 roadster. It'll presumably be installed somewhere this week.
I'll post my findings.

Mark,

That must have been your car featured on the Mark Evans show last night ?

You have done an excellent job.....I'm looking for a panhard rod , I could kick myself , when I built my V8 I used a Rover SD1 axle which has twin panhard fixings already attached, and I scrapped them !!

Can you let us have pictures or measurements please ?

Hope you get it sorted out.

As promised, here are some first impressions now the panhard rod's installed.

It is great! Installation was not that difficult, the explanations in the kit are very good.
The left rear wheel doesn't rub anymore (it merely touches when there's a serious pothole) and the handling feels a lot tighter.
(I just noticed Frontline is in Bath as well btw)

What clearance is there between the rod and your fuel tank?

What type of fuel tank is fitted to your car i.e. is it the standard or has it been modified?

I assume that you have the standard GT or has the reas end been modified in any way?

I ask because Front LIne fitted my rod 3 weeks ago and it seriously fouls the petrol tank. It would seem that the pivot for the rod attached to the body needs to be moved nearer the axle by about half an inch.
Can you measure the clearance between the face of the axle to the face of the rod on both sides of the car. My clearances are
3.5 inches approx for the nearside where the rod is attached to the body

2.5 inches approx where the rod is attached to the axle.

Thanks

Bob,

My car is a '65 mgb roadster and, apart from 15x5.5" 72 spoke MGC wire wheels on 185/65 tires, the rear suspension is pretty standard. The fuel tank is the standard thing.

One thing we noticed on installation was that the 'locating' hole in the body mounting bracket was not in the correct position, so we needed to drill another one.

I'll do some checking later on (it's raining here and the car's currently out on the driveway).

Built my own for the 67 GT. Some points to ponder: you wan to keep the bar as low as possible and parallel to the ground. The rear end housing/handbrake linkage and the gas tank form a mutually exclusive bit of real estate. I found that I had to put the bar a bit higher than I would really like for roll centre purposes. My car is about 3 inches lowe than Mr. Kimber intended, si it makes for close tolerances between the boot floor and axle braket; this would be one of those "self clearancing: issues. Not as important if your car is not lowered.

The braket that goes on the corner of the boot floor must be VERY solid. You must back this braket up with a steel plate inside the boot.. There is a lot of force when the axle swings and something must give. If this braket is less compliant than your suspension bushings, it will move and fail eventually.
