MG MGB Technical - Part identificaton

I am trying to re install my wiring harness and I have this (see pic) lead which I can not redily identify. I think it may go to the reverse ligt switch on the gearbox and up to the 'maze' of wires/connectors near the fuse box??

It measures 127cm (50inches)
1 Green wire
1 Green with brown stripe
2 attachment clips.

What is it? where does it go to/from?
Where do the attachment clips mount?
Note: I have covered it in heat shrink but the large plastic 'protector' is origional

Thanks in advance
Innes

Oh.. by the way... its a 1969 B roadster USA model.

Cheers

Innes,
Should be, as you said, harness to reverse light switch. Not sure on first attachment, but think it mounts to one of the upper right attachments bolts for transmission to rear engine plate. The second clip on your harness is attached (with bolt and nut) to another L-clip bolted to trasmission slightly above speedo pinion housing.

The bullets will go green to green in the main harness, and green/brown to green/brown in the rear harness. Both these are in the mass by the fusebox.

Thanks guys.

I have successfully paired up all the wires in the 'maze' including the reverse set mentioned above.

The only mystery now is how to connect the dual circuit brake fail sensor?? I must have lost a connector/lead as all i have is two 'bullet ended' black wires with white stripes labeled "brake fail" but the sensor itself requires a female twin pin plug of some sort?? I cant find any reference in the wiring diag I have.

Actually, Im sure there will be plenty more mysteries as I still havent hooked up the Dash side of the harness! Watch this space and thanks again for the help.

The pic is of the past few days (and nights) work

Innes-
Very nice workmanship, there, Innes. I just wish that everybody was as willing to take an extra moment to do things as well.

Thanks Steve. Been seven years so far so I dont want to rush the last of it. Got myself a headache coming though... Somehow Ive got to try and modify/fabricate the 1969 steering cowling to fit the earlier dash I decided to put in?! Also, the wiring behind the dash is going to be a bit of a nightmare since the car has been converted from LHD to RHD and I retained the original LHD loom (When I began the project I was quite broke). Somehow I have to get the wires to reach the new switch positions! Oh well, lucky I dont mind a challenge and I have managed to do everything myself... so far.

Then its just the Windscreen to fit, Wheels to restore, leather upholstery and oh, the engine and tranny to restripdown and rebuild!!

Nice job Innes. Very pretty colour.

I see that you have another problem though. In your conversion from LHD to RHD, you've forgotten to put the driver's seat on the same side as the steering column!

Keep up the good work, it will be well worth your hard work in the end.

I suppose an in line bullet connector would let you stretch the loom as needed, I would not expect any problems on light currents and in the dry up under the dash.

Innes, The brake pressure failure has what I call a pigtail connector with bullets on the two leads. They connect to the two black/white wires you mentioned. I haven't seen the connector listed in Moss or other parts catalogs. I'm posting an image that shows the plug in of the pigtail. It's about three inches long.

That is a VERY pretty color. What is it?

One way to "extend" your harness is to find another old harness and take out sections of the wire colors that you need. Then you can splice in sections with a single solder joint and shrink tube covering for each wire. Maintains the color coding and joints are not visible at all. Plus, solder joints don't have potential long term corrosion problems.

You may also be able to get wire lengths from Advance Auto Wiring www.advanceautowire.com/

innes
all looms were lhd from the factory all you do is double it back on its self

I have indeed doubled the loom back on itself but there are a few wires which will have to be extended. mainly for the switches/gauges on the extreme sides of the dash.

cheers larry... the colour was chosen after agonising over various choices for several years. i settled on a jaguar coulour called ZIRCON . it is a metallic so has an amazing appearance in various lights.

CLIFTON.. god knows what has happened to the connector for the brake fail sender. it is probabally in the same place as my torque wrench and half my socks!? Hopefully I can track down or build something which will suffice or 'find' one from a donor?

Innes, I may have a connector for the failure switch in my junk pile. I'm not sure as I sent some stuff across country last year and it may have gone with it. I'll have a look in a couple of days after our holiday. I'm more interested in the stretch BGT in your photo.

Color wiring diagrams are available at http://www.advanceautowire.com click on "stock schematics". Make yourself of couple of enlarged copies, one for reference and one to check off the connections as you install the new harness. Use a meter and a low amperage battery charger to test the harness before hooking up the battery.

Sorry, forgot to mention that the clip closet to the reverse light switch goes to the transmission to tail shaft bolt just in front of the reverse switch by looking at my spare tranny. I'd have to crawl under my B to see where the other clip goes.

Thanks very much LaVern and Kinberly.

Innes, I had a look in my electrical bits tonight and I'm sorry to report that I did not find the connection you need. I did get rid of a full syncro non overdrive tranny that I've been moving around for 12 years. I have one more box of odds and ends I'll have a look in but I wouldn't hold much hope.

Innes - The color of our 66 MGB looks almost identical to the color that you are using, only ours is a 91 Geo Metro metallic blue. I don't know what the exact name given to the color is though. Your car is looking beautiful. Cheers - Dave

Innes, I'm sorry to report that I no longer have the part your looking for. I'd still like some more history on the "stretch" BGT.

LaVerne

thanks for looking for the connection LaVerne. i will have to do some searching myself i think.

The BGT in my posts is the fruit of several hours of photoshop i am afraid. my roadster has taken me far too long let alone building a limmo GT! glad you noticed tho!
