MG MGB Technical - Pertronix Ignitor
Has anyone ever replaced their Lucus Opus electronic ignition with a pertronix Ignitor? My 1979 MGB has a 45DE4 with the faulty amplifier connected to the distributor. I am assuming I just cut those wires off since I have to leave the amplifier on the distributor to hold the spark advance diaphram. Then just drop in the new Pertonix Ignitor and hook directly to the coil... bypassing the existing drive resistor or inline resistor. Right? Anyone recommend using this application thus avoiding a more expensive electronic ignition replacement? |

Hello, yes indeed I did that and it works fine since then. The only thing that was a litlle obscure to me was in Pertronix infos where the say to keep resistor or wire resistor. The reason is the case for external resistor coil to protect it. Cheers, Jean G. |

So Jean, did you keep the resistor operating in-line? And did you just cut off the wiring to the old amplifier? Thanks for the response. Lee |

Hello Lee, I screw pertronix device inside distrib. Cutted 2 former wire emerging from distributor. And as the coil was internal resitance type I follow Pertronix intructions. Very easy to do as like you mentioned original set-up was useless. G. Luck, Jean G. |
