MG MGB Technical - Pertronix second strike

Is there anyone out there using this and what performance improvements can one expect?
Frank

'We' installed one in the Morris that's going to the Mexican Panamerica Carrera. It also has an RPM limiter. I'll let you know when they get back.
It is tempting, as the Jacobs unit is a proven quanity, with more smooth power, dynomometer tests show 1-3 % gains.

'74 raodster. I installed one about 5 years ago. Simple and trouble free. Timing mark is now rock steady, and there's no longer a need to check it. Didn't notice any differce in performance.

If it fails, there's no warning, like most electronics, so I keep the old points in the boot.

I slipped one in mine. I love it; less fiddling once it is in. Now, I am about to get one for my 53 chevy.

Glad to hear someone mention the Jacobs ignitions as we tend to hear only of pertronix and Crane with any frequency on this BBS, and with good reason. Those two are not expensive and purpose built for our cars. Jacobs also make good, proven ignition systems, http://www.jacobselectronics.com/, and altho they might take a little extra time and effort to install and a bit more money to buy, Doc Jacob's designs are well thought out. A look at his website might be of interest to some of you here on the BBS, just to be aware of what else is out there. The performance ignition world is not dominated by MSD.

This is the set-up I am running.

Mallory Dual Point Dizzy, with pertronics points as the input to a Jacobs box and coil. Very happy with the performance.

Very fail safe, as it is really two ignitions running.

Are we talking about the second strike or the ignitor? Isn't the second strike the external unit and the ignitor the one that goes inside the distro? I get the impression we're talking about both.

The thread title is "Pertronix second strike" and is an external box.

FWIW, the only electronic ignition failures I have experienced were two Jacobs CD boxes I bought in 1975. Both units lasted around a year and failed, one in a Toyota and the other in a VW. Clifton

I almost went with the Second Strike when looking for a rev limiter, which it has integrated as Dwight said. I went with a separate Pertronix rev limiter which is just the ticket for about half the price. Once you get past fuzzy installation instructions, it is very easy to install. The Second Strike idea appealled to me, but I don't know the real answer to the question of whether it works or not - I'd like to know, too.
