MG MGB Technical - Petronix ignition testing

I have 2 sets of Petronix Ignition units and I can't get either set to work in any of my MGs. Is there any way of testing them to see if they are still functional?

Hi Andy,

Provided you have the wiring of this pertronix units, it could be possible to set up a test procedure or a bench. Generally these infos are available on the product leaflet. Could you provide us with this drawings please?

Mine came from Retrorockets in the US. (tho mailed from a UK warehouse!) I think it was www.retrorockets.com. perhaps they are worth an email; they helped me with mine on first installation.

Sorry! www.vintageperformance.com see also note about 43/5 D and shaft length. I had to make a collar for mine.

Hook up a timing light to the #1 spark plug lead and see
if you get any flashes.

Check the timing while you're there.

I have had a Pertronix in my B/GT for many years without any
sort of hiccup - however when it is first installed the timing
must be adjusted as it can be off my as much as 10º - 20º
(enough to prevent your engine from firing up).

Twisting the dizzy a bit will bring the timing back to where
it's supposed to be.

I agree with daniel's suggestion; But it must be possible to test them out of context, that's what I achieved with my luminetion. I reproduced the given wiring on the product leaflet, powered by a battery loader, turning the main shaft in the proper direction produced an arc at grounded sparking plugg.
Hope that help.

Thanks for your input guys. I contacted Petronix and they sent me a workbench testing procedure but both of my pick up modules are kapupt. Unfortuneately I cannot post the procedure because it's a pdf file and not a photo.

Thanks Andy

Hi Andy

Is it possible to send the .pdf file to us? I would like to have a copy to be able to trouble shoot my Petronix if needed. the above address works.

Thanks in advance

Andy,

I can import one input pdf file to an output image one if necessary. Let me know if you agree with it please.
