MG MGB Technical - Poweros in drivetrain

Hi All!
I've just bought the mgb restoration Manual by L. Porter. In this book it is said that the power on the rear axle is about 60 hp and as we all know it is 95 on the flywheel (original setup). What happens with the rest of my hp's? and where does it happen? We're talking about a quiet big loss here? I haven't heard of any improvements on this.
There is a lot we can do concerning the engine to speed up but isn't the transmission a potential spot for better running? Anyone who knows something that can be done?

By the way "Poweros" in the title is the old Greek name for power used in ancient Greek garages. Its not a spelling mistake from me;-)

Anytime power changes direction there is a considerable loss. In our case, there are a bunch of changes in the tranny, driveshaft and rear end. Most of the energy becomes heat. The only way to eliminate all the losses would be to drive a rear wheel directly off the crankshaft, which would really use up your trunk space.

I like the Greek - nice touch. Porter is right about the bhp at the wheels. My car was on a dyno before and after the fitting of a Burgess cylinder head. The max power at the wheels was 65 bhp before and 92 after. The power losses are not only the in the transmission components but also the alternator takes a fair chunk of power, depending on how many electrical bits you have switched on and how discharged the battery is. If you want more power your only option is start spending on that engine.
