Daz, did you by chance get the ignition module from "simonbbc" on ebay? I got one from from him recently and had the same problem. I changed back to points (on the side of the road as I carried them just in case) and I have had no problems since.

By the way, the wiring seems back to front unless you have a +ve earth system.

Daz,

sometimes the points of the SU fuel pumpe become a problem when the car was not used for a period of time.
Is there the normal clicking when the engine cuts off?
If not, just take of the small cap and clean them.
An other problem might be contamination in the gas tank and it's pickup line facing to the pump.

Daz, When I had my car repainted they sprayed the boot as well. Little did I know that the breather for the fuel pump had been painted as well. This caused my fuel pump to overwork and caused similar problems to yours. Not until I replaced the pump with a pointless model did I discover the clogged vented tee in the boot. Something worth checking out. RAY

i can smell petrol after trying to start the car so the fuel pump must be working ,i can't see any breather , just the top of the pump with one wire going to it .i thought if it was the pump it would not start at all .i left the car running for 20 minutes then turnrd the engine off then back on no problems , its just when i drive it after about a mile . i then leave it for 20 minutes and it starts again .

Clogged pick up in the tank?

First, determine if you are getting fuel through to the carbies. Disconnect the fuel line at the first carburettor and direct the fuel line into a container. Turn the ignition on for 10-15 seconds and observe the fuel coming out of the fuel line into the container. It should pump in spurts. 10 seconds should pump about 100-150 ml. No fuel or very little and you have a problem at the back end of the car - pump or fuel line. If you get plenty of fuel, you have a carburettor or ignition problem.

Remember, 90% of fuel problems are electrical.
