MG MGB Technical - Radio and fuel pump questions
In my 69C, I have an original radio. I hooked a speaker up to it today and got a lot of static. The dials work and the light in the radio comes on. But no music )-: I can't find an antenna either. DO they have an internal antenna because I 'm fairly sure all my fenders are original but no antenna holes exist. Any suggestions? I'm using autolite platnum plugs for those that will ask that question. Next question: I bought a supposedly new SU fuel pump at Carlisle last spring but it does not work. I checked the points and they are not corroded. I also checked to make sure that they are touching. I replaced the diode, just in case it was that. No luck. What am I missing? TIA Jim 69C 70B |

Jim - There has to be an external antenna to your radio for it to receive any stations. There is no internal antenna on the radio. It could be that the PO never got around to installing a antenna or possibly removed an esixting one and filled the hole. You will need to decide if you want to drill a hole in one of your fenders for a antenna to mount in or try your luck with one of the so called hidden antennas. Regarding your fuel pump, take some 400 grit sand paper and drag through the points, first on one side then on the other and the pump should start running for you. The contacts develop a film over time that acts as an insullation on them. If this doesn't get the pump running for you, then see my SU fuel pump restoration service writ up at: http://www.custompistols.com/cars/dave/ddsu_fuel_pump_services.htm Good luck - Dave |

What Dave describes is 'normal', a new SU I bought had a slip of paper in the box saying that the points should be cleaned in the event of not working before being returned as faulty. |
