MG MGB Technical - Rear Axle 'Strap'
Good afternoon, I have a "quick" question before I order some parts. The brake cable support on the rear axle of my 1979 mgb roadster needs to be replaced. In the MOss (Fall 2007 Edition) Catalog, page 149, part #6 appears to be what I need to order. The current strap is just hanging there, all fratted, and not holding the cable. Will I be able to just remove the one bolt holding the strap, replace with a new strap and tighten down the bolt.... or do I have to replace the gasket too on the Diff cover to prevent leaks? How do I get the "cable through the strap"? Small part, low cost, but it must be important to the handbrake set-up. Looking forward to your response. Have a great day! Don 1979 MGB Roadster. |

Opps, my mistake.... should have read from the VB book. In the Moss book it is hard to tell what part, I think it is on page 56, part #43. can you help? is this the part I need? Thanks, Don |

Hi Don. The part number in the Moss UK parts book is BHH2136. It is OK to just remove one bolt without changing the gasket, try to tighten to the same level as before. You will have to disconnect the cable from the handbrake lever and tunnel mount to thread the strap over. Jim |

Howdy Jim, Thanks for the correct Moss # for the part and the way it is installed. I just wanted to make sure the Diff gasket would not have to be replaced too. Today I am checking over the "B" to see what other small parts are needed to order too along with this part... shipping cost are too high for just this one part. Enjoy your day! Don 1979 MGB |
