MG MGB Technical - Rear Banjo Axle Question

My 67 with a banjo disc wheel axle has a really loud whine now and I removed the differential. I am not set up to replace the ring and pinion but will send it off for repair. Can this be done properly by a qualified person WITHOUT having the axle assembly? Is all of the initial setup done on just the differential assembly? Seems like the disc wheel axle shafts could go along to if needed but I really am trying to avoid the whole car going etc. Thanks for your thoughts?

Hi Ralph
Its just the lump from the middle that is needed.

Axle whine is guite often caused by bearing wear that allows the crown and pinion to mesh incorrectly. It could be that replacement bearings and resetting will cure, but wear on the tooth faces may be bad enough to warrant replacement of the gears themselves.

Keep in close contact with the person doing the work because there is a big difference in cost.

While you have the axle apart - good opportunity to check the outer hub bearings, seals, gaskets and brake cylinders.
