MG MGB Technical - Rear Disc Brake conversion on ebay?
I just saw this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MGB-MG-GT-rear-disc-brake-conversion-rotor-caliper_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34199QQitemZ4606720968QQrdZ1 Has anyone else looked at this? I wonder if it will work on the earlier axle? |

I would be a little wary of a comments like "Not really sure- we are not MG experts. If the drum brakes interchange, it should work..." It also appears as though the hard brake line has to be reworked in order to fit to the new flex hose (you can just see this in one of the pictures). And I was under the impression that with the addition of rear discs, one would have to purchase a new master cylinder or at the very least install a proportioning valve? |

Mark, nice pics of a strange construction. Think it will work when new... but how long...? By the way, the drums are never working at their limits in a B or a V8. The only difference is a bit of less wight and quicker cooling down. May be a racing car can benefit from rear discs but for road use you are adequate equiped with the drums. Ralph |

Still pretty neet that someone is thinking about us. How many other companies would build a new item for our cars? |

Used to race an MGB that had mga twin cam disc brakes on the rear & had a lot of trouble with the rear wheels locking up when race pads were fitted up front. Fitted a proportioning valve but in the end went back to drums. Drilled 6 X 1" dia holes in the back plate for cooling. Used VG95 linings & 3/4 cylinders. Had no further problems. Garth |
