MG MGB Technical - Rear end rattle on hard acceleration
I'm experiencing a rattling noise coming from the rear end on hard acceleration. The noise is only noticeable in 1st and 2nd gears when the throttle is fully open. If the car is taken through the entire rev range without opening the throttle fully then there is no noise. The noise appears to be coming from the rear axel. The car is a 1971 mgb roadster. Any suggestions as to the problem/solution would be appreciated. James. |

Check the u-joints, shocks, splines first. If those are all good it is probibally the axle thrust washers. You can look for my details about these in archives. |

Or it is the engine pinking under load - try retarding the ignition by a couple of degrees and see if the rattle changes. |

Thanks for your suggestions. I will be replacing the propshaft and the thrust washers soon - hopefully this will cure the problem. |
