MG MGB Technical - rear shocks

has anybody successfuly removed the pivot arm from the shock in order to replace the seals?? If so how did was it done ? regards brian

I believe that it requires an arbor press. You might be able to do it with a gear puller. Also, I've never seen any vendor offering the seals or a rebuild kit for the shocks. I think that the concensus is that this is a job best left to the professional rebuilders.

Brian, I have not tried to disassemble a rear shock but have disassembled two front shocks. Trying to do a DIY shock rebuild isn't pratical. To do them correctly would require some special equipment not found in the average MG owners tool box. I have no idea where you could find parts and seals. Your best bet for rebuilt shocks is Wide Woorld Auto parts at: http://www.mailbag.com/users/nosimport/
Their prices are reasonable and the quality of their rebuild is excellent. Actually I have no idea how a rear shock is disassembled. FWIW, Clifton
