MG MGB Technical - rear wheel brake stuck???
hello, my left rear wheel cylinder is stuck when i break and it stays stuck until i turn open the bleed nippel. I changed the wheel cylinder but no difference. when i break the shoe's don't go back to home position, they keep rubbing the drums. It's a 1964 mgb, I hope you can help me and give me some suggestions. thankx for the help, |

Mike, Have you jacked up the car to test both wheels at once? DO both rear wheels stop turning when you press on the brake pedal? My first thought was the flexible hose at the differential is not allowing the return of the brake fluid. The flexible line may be deteriating and coming apart inside allowing brake fluid travel in only one way. So when you hit the brake pedal it allows fluid to travel to the rear brakes but does not allow the return of the brake fluid to the master brake cylinder. NOW you say "why only on the left side". If the right rear wheel cylinder is not functioning at all (it is corroded up and not moving the brake shoes out to the brake drums),then you would only see the sticking brake problem on the left. I'd say Ray is on to it. The adjustment could also be out on the right, so that only the left binds. Do check your solid brake lines up on top of the axel, they often get smushed when towed and could conceivably act as a one way valve. Dean |

thanks, will check this in the morning. the other wheel was just braking a little bit. so it can be the flexible hose that is deffective. i'll let you now how it went. have a nice day, |
