MG MGB Technical - Recommend a Timing light?

Hi. I am looking for a timing light with digital RPM screen. Bought an A**spark which was DOA and heard from a friend that he has been thro 2 in a month so got refund & am looking for other brand. I cannot find much in online reviews...budget to about £50 new or used. Thanks, Graham

Get an adjustable one as it makes checking advance very easy. I've had a gunsons for quite a few years now, it's only limitation is when using it to check for a spark while cranking on a non-starter. It needs a full 12v for its electronics to function, the reduction in system voltage to 10v or so while cranking is enough to stop it. You can power it from another source of course.

There are some with an integral tach, but personally I would rather have separate instruments. Without tach it doesn't need a display.

I have a Sealey but have had it a few years.

Does advance (dial-back adjustable), RPM, Volts and dwell. I did find switching from rpm to advance useful for plotting a timing curve but other than that the rpm function is of less use. Not sure it is <£50 tho.
