MG MGB Technical - Refurbishing master brake cylinder case
I've just finished cleaning off about 35 years of old brake fluid etc from the reservoir of my master brake cylinder. Considering the age it's come up pretty well but has some pin prick rust marks. What's the best way to treat it and still leave it looking tinned like the original finish? I was thinking of maybe cleaning it with 'metal ready'(deposits zinc phosphate coating on the rust) to stabilise the rust and then spraying it with something like Eastwoods Clearcoat. Any advice would be appreciated. Richard |

At least one of mine rotted through the top even though there only seemed to be minor rust spotting visible on the outside. I only discovered it when using an EeziBleed and wondered where all the fluid was coming from (think about it). I doubt any rust stabiliser will leave it looking the original tin colour, if you were that determined you might get better results with solder tinning. I replaced mine (three on two cars so far) and sprayed with clearcoat which has kept them looking good for quite a few years now. |
