MG MGB Technical - Replacement brake pipes

While under the car for the clutch slave cylinder Shaun found a leak in the brake line.(the leak is on the rear pipe by the connection.) I was wondering if anyone can suggest brake pipe replacements and can you get them prebent?
Thanks,

Take your existing pipe to a motor factor and have them make up a new pipe for you. It will be supplied coiled and you must use your old pipe as a template to bend the new one. It is quick and painless.

I think most people with MGBs have gone over to the copper alloy pipes. You can buy the stuff in coils and a flaring tool and away you go. Since they will last for ever if you dont feel like taking it on just pay for it to be done, it will only need doing once.

Bruce-
Classic Tube in New York is a fantastic source for replacing your individual or complete brake line system. They have a lot of British patterns already in stock and provide the material in either mild steel or stainless steel with the correct flares and fittings. Plus, their brake lines (pipes) are already pre-bent on computer-controlled machines to the required lengths, angles, and orientations. I am not sure that you could buy the material, fittings, and tools for much less than what they would charge to do it for. If you have ever tried to copy some of the British line, then you know how much fun that can be. Play it safe - if you are in doubt, buy new. Classic Tube has a website at http://www.classictube.com/ .

I have Stainless lines on my Factory V8 from Classic tube
they are great. I had to send them my lines to copy but they have patterns for most MGB's. My car had copper and that's a no-no in my state

I took mine to a local brake company and had perfect replacements, bent to the correct curvature, correct length with proper "British" fittings ready the next day for less than $25 for both rear pipe runs. Check the rear brake hose from the union on the axle to the brake line at the rear of the car also. If your pipe is leaking from age and wear and considering the car is a 1972, it's worth inspecting for cracks in the rubber.

Bruce,

Rick touched on a VERY critical issue. PROPER FITTINGS AND PROPER FLARES! Not like that used on most, if any, American cars (that I know of. It’s called a bubble flare. As already indicated by Stephen and Bob, Classic Tube does a GREAT JOB!!! You can get the stainless steel line for not a whole lot more than the mild steel lines. Actually you can probably purchased a complete set for your entire car, to freshen up those rusty or painted over lines for around $200.00 (in stainless steel). All pre-bent and with all the proper fittings. Any of the lines that are not correct can be returned to Classic Tube and they will make you a new one with the pattern you provide to them. I used the lines from my car (mgc roadster) for them to make me a complete set of line. Worked beautiful!!
