MG MGB Technical - Replacing Directional Switch
The repair manual I have recommends removing the steering wheel in order to replace the directional / high beam switch on my '72B. I have lost high beams, when I switch to the high beam position I lose all headlights. And the other problem is the directionals no longer cancel after making most turns. I believe it is time for a new switch. |

In the end the switch wires and brass tags suffer from metal fatigue due to all the flexing in use. The wire insulation gets stiffer and puts even more strain on the tags and they break off. Also the plastic "trips" give up. Frankly i find the self cancelling a pain so i remove the "horseshoe" from the column and switch on AND off! You can leave the wheel in place and just remove the cowl should you wish. |
