MG MGB Technical - replacing switches and bezels

I just bought a 1974 B and the heater fan switch needs to be replaced along with the trim pieces (bezels?) for some of the other dashboard components. Can someone explain how these components detach from the dash? Thanks, Jim
Jim H

Hard to explain, but I'll try. The switch goes thru a same sized hole in dash. There is a square piece that is slightly larger than switch that goes over the switch from the back of dash. It has hooks and attatches to the sides of the switch, holding it in. To remove disconnect wires, and then use a small flat head screw driver and pry the sides(vertical) of this back piece out and it should come off allowing the switch to be easily removed.

Jim:

It helps if you have the face vent out. Easy access. It also helps if you have a young son with skinny arms and long fingers. Piano players can do this best.

Just did what you are doing. Ran into one problem. Tried to just replace the bezel but found the OE switch was one piece with the bezel. (Mine is also a 74) Waisted the price of a new bezel and ended up replacing the whole switch after I destroyed the original trying to separate it from its bezel. If you are replacing the switch, it will come with the bezel.

You will have to reinstall the light over/behind the switch, but that is fairly self-explanatory. It sits on top the switch and the holder just snugs around it. On mine the green plastic piece that tints the light is thicker than the original and makes the fan switch and headlight switch not match perfectly. It's a good thing the dash lights are too dim to show off imperfections like that.

Have fun behind the dash.
