MG MGB Technical - Reverse Light Switch
Recently bought a 67 GT have only had midgets to this point. I could have sworn the reversing lights worked when I bought the car but recently noticed they weren't working. Decided today that I was going to fix them. Did all the normal tests, voltage at the rear connections and traced it to the connections by the brake pipe union under the bonnet. There was nothing connected to the GN/BR running towards the light units and no obvious wire down to the gearbox. Took the panel out from on top of the tunnel to access the switch to find there is no switch present. There is the O/D switch to the left but I suspect there should be a switch to the right inline with the gear lever. I can feel a blank in there my question is since I have all this apart can I remove the blank and insert a switch. the gearbox is a 3 syncho is there anything needed internally or is it just a case of screwing a switch in and sorting the missing electrics. Appreciare thoughts of anyone who has been there already with this. Thx |

The earlier 3 synchro transmissions, that didn't have a reverse light switch, did indeed come with a blanking plug. All you need to do is install a back up light switch, after removing the blanking plug. It is the same part number as the OD isolation switch used on all B transmissions. RAY |
