MG MGB Technical - roll over cage..

Hi,

Has anyone of you ever build a 'roll over cage' for his car??
I want lift off the body of my car (no-MG), and seek advice about construction and metal-dimensions.
(I do have a MIG/MAG welder!)

Do you want to still use the convertable top?
Ross

I seem to have suggested the wrong cage..
I was aiming the 'roll over cage' (rotisserie?) you can mount a car in to work on the underside of it...
(so not the 'scalp protecting' construction on an open sportscar)

:-)

Ohhh sorry mate, I know there is a web site on how to make one but cant remember the addy maybe some one else will good luck.
Ross

Hi Rob. You are looking for a rotisserie. Mark Thomas used one for his MGB
restoration. My guess is that he built it as he is a welder. There are some
photos of it being used during his mgb restoration in his web site. If you
have some questions send him an email and ask for details on the construction

Hope this helps. Clifton

You can buy one mail order from http://www.frost.co.uk
Use the search function and look for "body roller". This one attaches to the wheel studs (wire wheels as well) and costs 350 GBP. It doesn't allow the car to go right upside-down as far as I can tell.

Rob. I just did a rotisserie search on Yahoo and found some plans for building
a rotisserie. One was for a Spitfire.
http://jarmac.picarefy.com/spitfire/rotisserie.html
Another gives plans and a material list, see it at;
http://members.tripod.com/mopar_roadster/body_rotisserie.htm
It appears the simple way is to use two engine stands as a platform. Hope this
helps, Clifton

Here's another description for building your own:

This fellow appears to be fond of Corvairs.

Icontacted Mark Thomas about his rotisserie and he forwarded the plans to me. I built it and it works great. It takes some welding but is straight forward. My 67 is up on it as we speak. If you want a copy of the plans let me know.
