MG MGB Technical - roll/sway bar, rack?
I have had great help with Xmembr problem and would like to start new threed. Is there any advantage in using the CB or RB rack - lighter steering etc? I understand the RB has more turns. Any clues on which roll/sway bar to use on a lowered car ( CB crossmember)? Cheers Brian |

I've owned both a 1968 and a 1980 mgb roadsters. No scientific data here just my experience. I prefer the 1968 steering rack over the 1980. It might be the steering wheel size but it appears to turn in a more precise manner. When I rebuilt the front end of my 1968 I put on a sway bar that I got from a flea market (autojumble) that came off of a 1980 B. It is thicker than the original that was on the 68 and now the car corners much better with a lot less body roll. I think Moss etc sell uprated bars that are about the same size as the rubber bumber sway bars for chrome bumber cars Cris |

Cris Many thanks for the info. You would think if they later rack has more turns lock to lock it would lighten the steering a little. I think I may go for the V8 sway/rollbar as it has a kink to help clear the V8 sump? Brian |

Anti-roll bar should be nowhere near the sump, mine is immediately in front of the crank pulley, the sump is behind it of course. I have an uprated (thicker) bar and that isn't cranked, and nor was the original. |

Brian, Power steering would help at parking speeds, not sure if anyone has attempted this on a conversion. For "High" speed Frontline have a Castor kit to help match B steering with wide profile tyres. 3/4 arbs with a small amount of neg camber is usual set up. Frontline have an adjustable camber set up. John Hoyle may be updating King Pin set up but the Hoyle front is also adjustable. Paul |
