MG MGB Technical - Same day....2nd ?? Headlights this time.

When my 73B roadster body was restored by the previous owner it appears new front fenders were installed. There was always something screwy about the headlights mounted position and I took a look at that today.

Well, I found there is a mounting ring welded to the fender that is not quite positioned properly....on both fenders.....one worse then the other.

I could drill new holes in this mounting ring but that does not completely solve the problem. The rear of the lamp has a 1/2 football shaped encapsulating cover that projects into the wheel well through the welded in place mounting ring. The ring is far enough off of proper location that the encapsulating cover hits the side of the ring before the lamp assmebly is properly positioned.

I am assuming that this problem is due to the previous owner cheaping out on lower quality fenders.

Other then either breaking the rings free and rewelding them in the proper position, or cutting away some steel on the inner edge of the rings, I see no solution. Am I missing something here?

Thanks,
BH

If you can get it to fit by removeing a little metal from the mount that would be the way to go. The key words are "little metal" only you can be the judge of how much is too much. RIC
