MG MGB Technical - Seats

Does anyone know if the seats from a 03 Mazda Miata Mark 1 MX5 will fit into a 79 B and how much of a job is it if they do fit?.
Thank you.

I think they are too wide. Strangely they just fit into the midget, but I'm pretty sure they won't go in the B.

I read this article on the net and it seemed doable,
http://www.mgccq.org.au/tech11.htm. I got a line on the seats from a wrecking yard a couple of hundred miles from where I live. The owner said they were "nice". They are a bit pricey.
I could go get them, but my worry is I travel to pick them up, spend a bunch of bucks, start the job, and then find out that they don't fit and I wind up being stuck with seats I can't use.
I'm hoping someone who has made such a switch can enlighten me.
Thanks to all.

If you ask on the Midget section of this BBS someone will measure their Miata (MX-5 in the UK) seats and then you can measure the space inside your car. Several of the folks on there have these seats in their Midgets.

Quite a lot of these more modern seats have a lower plastic surround at the base. More for aesthetics and tidiness. I do not know whether this is the case with MX5 seats or any others which makes the width at the base perhaps too large for the B. but these surounds can be removed, sliming the seats down. The other point might be to have these seats somewhat raised, so that the inner tall sill so-to-speak is cleared. I am short so to raise a seat may not be a bad thing. For a 6 footer perhaps not. Hi,

From when I did mine, I was told to get "early" seats. I assume that MK 1 would be "early".

There was an excellent article on DIY on the web, but I haven't been able to locate it. I do have it printed in pdf format, but its over 6 meg in size.

If you PM me your email address I can attempt to forward it to you.

The Mazda Mk1 I know is of around 1991 onwards. They are the 'early' seats herb mentions. They have been fitted to the B. Archives have a number of threads on that.

If 03 = 2003 then I am not sure. The Miata/MX5 changed and grew over the years so those seats may be too wide - or out on other dimensions.

Be sure of the model/year you are considering if researching or asking here for space/seat measurements.
