MG MGB Technical - Servo Orientation

Hi, Changing the servo on my BGT (74). Old one has the air filter at the top, new one shows it at least 30 degrees down from horizontal. It won't fit the bracket if I follow the new instruction - is it critical or just to aid bleeding?? Thanks Andrew

Andrew,

If the filter covered inlet is to allow air to compensate for the displacement caused by the vacuum ( and it sounds like it is since it is admitting atmospheric pressure air) the orientation has no effect on the performance of the servo.

There may be more to this: underneath the filter is a small valve in contact with the brake fluid. Don't know how it works exactly, but ther are cases where the valve sticks. With the filter pointing downward, the valve "drops back" in the correct position automaticly.
I am using the same servos on my C with the filters pointing up, haven't had a problem yet.
If you can fit the servo with the filter down, do it . One less thing to worry about.
