MG MGB Technical - Setting theToe-in
I have one of those hand held alignment gauges used to check the toe-in measurement. Should the front wheels be off the ground or on the ground when taking the measurement? And does it matter which tie rod you make the adjustment to? left side or right side? |

Dennis - I don't think you'll be able to get the rear measurement unless you have the wheels off the ground. (At least I wasn't able to.) You need to make equal adjustments to both sides - not just one. For example, even though adjusting the right side one full turn might give you the proper toe-in you would need to do 1/2 turn on the left and right side to properly make the adjustment. |

Dennis, When they do toe in at a tire store or such they measure with the wheels on the ground and under weight as that is the way they will be when using the car. I just got mine done when I got new tires and they did it not jacked up. Ed |

Dennis Toe in check is always done on the ground and if the car has been jacked up must be rolled back and forth to settle the suspension before checking. If your steering wheel is not straight ahead when driving, adjusting one side more than the other can fix it but you have to pick the correct side. |
