MG MGB Technical - Severe Oil Pressue evils . . .
About ready to to test the 0-60 time of my B off a cliff. After several miscellaneous jobs on the car, including float lid replacement, carb adjustment, spark plug replacement, replacing a fried alternator and oil and filter change (all of this after a rear axle thurst washer change), I started up the engine this morning to no oil pressure registering. I was checking for sparks, leaks, smoke, explosions, under the hood before I went back around to the dash and noticed no pressure registering. Any ideas? Using Quaker State 10W40 and K&N HP-2004 Filter. Ran engine for almost a minute before I could cut it, have been hyperventilating and crying in the fetal position since. Thoughts? |

Additional info: '71B, same oil and filter used previously without issue, always had 60psi upon startup. |

Are you using the original electric oil pressure sender on your 71? These are unreliable, and you may simply have jostled the sender connector loose, or the sender may be faulty. I would cross-check with a mechanical gauge to verify the zero oil pressure first. |

Thanks Ronald. You were spot-on. The connector was not tight, and a bit corroded. Cleaning it off and firmly reconnecting it resulted in immediate 60psi. Problem solved. Time to drink heavily and try to forget the whole thing . . . |

Horray!! Mr. Knight, that one made my stomach hurt too. You couldn't have a better ending. Time to drink perhaps, but I'd be celebrating. May all your fixes be this easy! |
