MG MGB Technical - Sinking feeling: brakes

I finally got my MoT after much overdue maintenance only to find a weird feel to the brake pedal driving it today. The car brakes fine if you need to stop firmly and quickly but if you apply pressure then ease off a touch the pedal sinks noticeably and the braking effort reduces. Letting the pedal right up or pumping it restores things.

I replaced the pads, a couple of brake pipes, a wheel cylinder and rebuilt a caliper for the MoT and of course bled the brakes. I'm thinking master cylinder but may face a divorce if I start pulling the car to pieces in a major way again. Any 2 minute cures?

Many thanks,

Steve

Sounds like it's master cylinder overhaul time. Bob Thompson

Yes, have to agree with Bob, Steve. The seals are sealing against the bore with high reverse pressure prssing them on but leaking with less pressure, a bit like you can do with a bike pump.

Only other thing springs to mind is the servo if you have one, they can feel a bit like this, are you losing fluid level?

Rich

Oh dear. Looks like I need to order a master cylinder and a large bunch of flowers. The car does have a servo but it does it with the engine off, and I don't seem to be losing fluid. Thanks for the confirmation.
