MG MGB Technical - Slave cylinder rebuild

I was going to buy a new one, but trying to keep costs down right now. looks like it's leaking due to the outer rubber leaking.... so i'm thinking a rebuild kit might fix it. or.. does anyone know if the rubber happens to be the same size as a midget's? I think i might have a rebuild kit for a midget somewhere in the garage.

thanks,

If the outer rubber cover is leaking it means the inner seal has gone, and it is more important *that* is the correct size than the outer cover. The MGB clutch slave has a completely different external appearance to any of the Midget slaves, and Moss has different part numbers for the repair kits. Now if it was a V8 you wanted it for, that would be a different matter.

thanks, Paul. that makes sense. now to decide to rebuild or replace- i'll prob replace.

Don,

The slave cylinder is very easy to rebuild. The only reason you shoud need to replace it is if you got moisture in there which has deeply pitted the wall. It's less than 2 hours, start to finish, to rebuild the slave. Check the clevis pins for wear while you're at it.

Agreed. Smooth walls = rebuild. Pitted walls = replace.
Steve Simmons

thanks, paul and steve. i'll pull it off when it gets warmer and take a look. i've had the car a couple months, so not sure what it might be like.

Don, Why don't you bring your car by along with PLENTY of BEER and we can figure out your slave cylinder and paint problem.

John,
Great idea, but here's the problem- the GT obviously wont hold enough beer. i'll have to bring the truck and make 2 trips.
