MG MGB Technical - Sound deadening
Whilst stripping the interior of my CGT recently, I noticed something that to me looked odd. On the floors is copious quantities of the standard MG tar sound deadening sheets -- sometimes two, three, or more layers thick. On top of that, in some places, was a sheet of dense urethane foam insulation about 3/8" thick. It looked very carefully fitted, almost die cut. Is this factory or PO? I've never worked on another GT, and I've never seen it in a roadster, so I have no basis for comparison.... Cheers! |

Rob In my 1980 GT I have white possible die cut dense foam stuck to the sprayed floor. David |

Rob, I'd have to say the foam insulation is a PO job. My 73 GT only has the tar sound deadening sheets over the original floors. Both are body colour painted. |

If this foam is a dense, skinned at least on one side, die cut white-ish stuff, it is factory fitted. Cannot remember if it was stuck to the floor, but I think it was loose, as I now have it in the garage, and there are none of the rip marks associated with glue. At least it was with mine, a 1980. |

Rob, My 68 GT had some foam on the floors when I bought it but the foam didn't appear to be factory installed. It wasn't die cut. FWIW, Clifton |

My 68 GT had NO foam padding, matting, or any other foam stuff on its floors or any remanants of any that might have been previously fitted. All it, and the 69 parts GT I used, had was the die cut tar-type sound deadening. FWIW. |
