MG MGB Technical - Squeaky noise

Does anybody out there have any idea as to the source of an irritating squeaky rattle which appears to come from somewhere in the back of my 1972 B GT. Only occurs when driving over rough road or potholes ( so most of the time then ) and I can't make it do it when stopped by jiggling things. I have tried with the back seat down and up, but no difference.
Is this a common squeak if so has anybody cured it?

A similar squeak on mine turned out to be the front rubber bush or bolt on one of the rear springs. They were new springs and bushes, and the squeak started about a month after fitting them. I applied some waxoyl (thinned with a bit of white spirit), without disassembling anything. That seems to have cured it.

The boot stays on the GT are supposed to squeak, sometimes - I have heard several owners complain about that. Some fit telescopic replacements, although I'd prefer to keep an original look so would probably try some easing oil, perhaps in concert with a new boot rubber, if the old one appears to have perished. Mine squeaks so occasionally that I have never looked into it in detail, sorry.

Funnily enough, mine started doing this last week.

Yesterday, I wrapped some PVC tape around the thingy that the tailgate latches to at the back end of the floor. (Moss catalogue calls it the STRIKER.)

Anyway, the squeak has disappeared today./

I had the same problem, which as with Brian was the front spring bush. Unfortunately, mine was breaking up and had broken a piece of the eye of the spring. Relatively cheap to fix, as I had a spare spring and a pair of new bushes, but oh what a chore getting it all apart. Ended up as most of a day's job and lots of angle grinding.

Mine were the springs - dry interleaving. Painted Waxoyl onto them and heated with an air gun to melt it and run into the crevices, and that did the trick.

Thanks all. Today I collected 3 bags of compost in the car and it stopped squeaking. This leads me to think it is rear spring related, so will try to lubricate as suggested.

Had the same problem on my '73 BGT,a squeak mainly when dry but would disappear in the rain, tried the waxoyl as Paul Hunt suggests, still squeaked, then while checking the rear shocker fluid (from inside the car)I decided to spray waxoyl onto the shocker link arms through the shocker filler body hole, Bingo!!! no squeaks for over a year now.

Wm.G....You just put a jinx on it!...It will begin squeeking tommorrow! (LOL)....
Seriously, though, replacing my hatch folding arms, with gas struts , cured my problem (and made opening the hatch a pleasure).

My rattly squeak returned on Thursday. The piece of tape that I wrapped around the tailgate latch had worn through. I replaced it and that particular part of my car is silent again.
