MG MGB Technical - steering column play
I've got a little bit of play when moving the steering wheel up and down mainly, on my 1978 B. It is only a very small amount of play and my sympathetic MOT tester said leave it. Is it possible to change the top bush in the column or do I need to change the upper steering column if I want to eliminate this play. The reason I ask is that when driving on our rough roads It appears I get some shaking from the steering wheel which probably is exaggerated by the small amount of play in the top bush. |

It is possible to replace the bearing in the later full-collapsible column. It's contained in a housing which is retained by a couple of large pop-rivets and circlips. This may help - http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/scolumn.htm#5a and scroll up to the previous picture to start. |
