MG MGB Technical - Steering Column Thread Pitch & Size

I posted this yesterday, but it didn't seem to appear on the BBS, even though I did get one response, soooooo....

Does anyone know the size and pitch of the thread on the steering column. This is where the steering wheel "hold down nut" goes. The PO must have used a sledge hammer on it and I need to "chase" the threads, but I don't have a big enough die.
Help.

The Bentley book I have (1962-1974) lists two different sizes: 9/16 UNF and 11/16 UNF...

JR, don't know the year of your car, but I checked a column that fits cars from 1970 to 74 chrome bumper cars and it has a 9/16" 18 threads/in. Moss lists the same nut for 70-80. Regards, Clifton
