MG MGB Technical - Steering problem

Noticed a problem with the steering on a recent run. From the straight ahead position, turning into say a gentle curve on a motorway the steering will feel 'notchy'. i.e. I need to turn past a point of resistance before the steering wheel will move smoothly. A bit disconcerting as it can send you more into the turn than you intended!

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem when my kingpins were seizing....that's what I would check first. Do you have any idea how long since they were replaced?

Check your steering universal--may be binding.

I had the exact same problem a couple of years ago. The steering box was dry and full of dusty rust. I cleaned it, put oil in, and put it back in service. The sticking point is gone and the steering is just fine.

Yes, it was a bit disconcerting on the freeway when it felt like I had to force the steering past that sticking point.

As you may have gathered from the above responses, Lack of lubrication or worn parts anywhere in the system from the steering wheel all the way to the road could be causing or contributing to your dilemma. Smart money would check/service them all!
