MG MGB Technical - Steering wheel cowl removal

I need to replace the ignition switch in my 74B and I an having one hell of a time removing the cowl. I can just about "feel" the two screws nearest the daah but I cannot "feel" the others nearest the indicators, swipers etc.

Any thoughts/suggestions.

Thanks

You'll need a long, thin Phillips screwdriver to reach the screws. RAY

Thanks. I can get the right hand one nearest the dash out ok, the corresponding one on the left is a little tricky due to the dash, but the others even with a long thin phillips head, I just cannot feel them and just wondering if some PO had not bothered to replace them?

If it's anything like the UK rubber bumper cowl the 'halves' are left and right instead of upper and lower as on earlier cars. There is one screw in each half near the steering wheel, and another screw in each half concealed by the cut-out in the lower part of the dash. About the only way to get the concealed ones out is by dropping the column, and don't put them back! But the upper screws are easily accessible, on the UK cars at least. If you have got one screw out, and that half still isn't loose, then the cowl is probably being held by the concealed screw. However the cowls can stick to the harnesses.

Thanks. This is a 74. I remember taken the cowl off a 77 parts car. I can't for the life remember how the screws went and I didn't mind using a bit of brute force to get if off once I had been able to remove the screws. I'll fiddle around a little more this weekend. All I know is that with a screw driver, on the one's nearest the wheel I can go in a considerable way in without being able to feel the screw head, perhaps, as I have mentioned before, some PO might not have replaced them. If I take one of the screws out nearest the dash, there is a bit of play when I try to rotate the cowl, but seems to be getting caught up somewhere towards the steering wheel

Cheers

Haven't taken one off in a while. I seem to remember there are only two screws in the four holes nearest the steering wheel. That is to say the head of the screw is in the hole on the top and bottom on only one side.

I don't remember which side the screw head is on, but I believe it is toward the driver's side door.

I could be wrong in my remembering, but give it a look.
