MG MGB Technical - Steering wheel is screaming
steering wheel makes annoying noise – it squeals at every turn. It does not look that it touches anything so I do not have any idea what could be source of that noise. Does anyone have remedy for that - except ear plugs? I have 1966 B with non collapsible steering column. toni |

Probably the horn contact. Attatched to the stalk there is a spring which should have a copper contact riveted to it, this is in contact with a disc, to maintain a circuit for the horn push. Problem either; copper rivet "gone"; spring pashed up too tight; needing a spot of lubricant! |

Also very common that the plastic cowling is touching the wheel where you cannot see it, usually from sloppy top column bush. Sometimes you can cure it by loosening the securing screws and moving the cowling a tiny bit. FRM |
