MG MGB Technical - steering wheel nut size

I have a 77B -- what size is that nut holding the steering wheel on? It seems between a 1" and a 1 1/8".. is it metric? Thanks

Bill; It should be 1 1/16", or that is the size on several I have checked on chrome bumper cars.
