MG MGB Technical - steering wheels from 1962 to 1969
Hello. I need a steering wheel to fit a 1969 MGB. I have found one in another state, but the owner doesn't know if it is circa 1962-1967 or 1968-1969. His has the 3-spoke, 2-spoke, 3-spoke design. Are the steering column shaft sizes for years 62-69 all the same, or were there differences in hub hole diameters and spline numbers during those years? Also, will a '70 MGB wheel fit a '69? Thank you for your help. Craig C. in Florida |

Craig; 62-67 steering wheels had the horn push in the center of the wheel. I suspect the shaft threads are different because the nuts have different part numbers. 70-74 wheels used a hub that will not fit 68-69 cars. Clifton |

I have a '69 BGT. My steering wheel is of the 3 spoke, 2 spoke, 3 spoke design without a horn push. Horn is activated through the turn signal switch (push in). Single spline in middle. No other holes. Cover goes over to make things look nice. |

I have a spoke steering wheel from my 1968 MGB raodster I'm not using - email me if you're interested in working something out. |

The 62-67 and 68-69 wheels look alike, but have different splines so they are not interchangable. I know, I accidentally bought a pre-68 wheel for my 68 and it did not fit. I believe they must have changed the plastic they were using for the wheels as well, because the 62-67 ones were prone to cracking, whereas the 68 ones don't seem to be so bad about that. |
