MG MGB Technical - Sticking carb cable - Weber DGV
My throttle is a bit notchy, seems like the wire is sticking in kts casing. Carb axles move sweetly with no notches and throttle return is not tighter than necessary. I habe disassembled the wire from its casing, it is brand new, well lubed. More lube was applied by me, but did not help. The wire itself is 1/16' (1,6 mm) Can I buy a standard SU HS4 cable or i do I need a special length/design for the WEBER DGV carb? Has anyone tried toreplace the multistranded wire with piano wire for this job? (old HDs and Indians used that, and it gave a really light and smooth throttle feel when properly set up.) Jan, As an option you might consider removing the cable, and taking it by a local bicycle shop to have one made to match with a nylon liner. Moss sell these, but the bicycle shop might be quicker. I wouldn't tell them it's for an MGB until after you pay for the cable ;-) Regards, Larry C. |

That is a good suggestion Larry! I have a bicycle shop near by where I live, regards, Jan |

My Weber Down draught needs a solid cable has it has to push as well as pull! |

Check that the cable guide, mounted next to your brake master cylinder, isn't worn to the point that it is causing the throttle cable to bind as it passes through it. A common, but often overlooked, troublespot. RAY |

Sorry Jan, I was talking about the choke cable (??????? brain fade). RPI engineering will sell you a suitable throttle cable. |

Got a new cable from Moss and installed it tonight. Voila! Throttle action is now very light, and smooth as silk. Thank you for helping me out with this problem. regards Jan |
