MG MGB Technical - Still running rich 1968 Roadster
Car seems to be running pretty good, but when I check the plugs, there still carbon black...I am using high octane gas 93...Should I switch to regular gas and add the lead additive?...Could this be my problem? Thanks Mike C... |

Mike: I have a 69 and use only 93-94 octane, which is just right for the high compression (8.8:1) engine in our cars. Your mixture is a bit too rich, you need to tune the carbs to lean it out. Actually, if you havent tuned the engine before, for best results check the point gap, timing, and adjust the valves before you start tuning the carbs. Which plugs are you using? |

I recommend that you go the full Monty and give the ol' girl a complete tune-up. Failure to do so usually results in chasing a simple problem in the wrong direction. Adjusting the carbs is the last item in a rather lengthy checklist (for a very good reason). Mike! |
