MG MGB Technical - STOP LIGHT PROBLEM
Hi all, I have just replaced the stoplight switch on 69B. When the headlights are on, the left side stoplight remains on all the time. (When the headlights are off, the stoplights work as normal.) Any suggestions on what the problem is? Thanks Mike |

Mike - E-mail me and I'll send you a write up and diagrams that show what to look for. basically you have a ground problem in the left side lamp socket assembly. Cheers - Dave |

The headlights shouldn't affect the rear lights as they have their own ground, however the parking lights can affect the stop lights and turn signals if the ground is bad at the rear light cluster, and should cause both lights to glow. A late 69/70 model has side marker lights that come on with the headlights (in 72 they changed to come on with the parking lights) so I rather suspect you have some cross-connections between the blue side-marker lights and the green/purple stop lights in the boot/trunk. The side markers have a wired ground, the main light clusters pick it up from their physical fixings, so again one shouldn't affect the other. |
